Year-End Reflection

This year has been tumultuous. On the homefront here in New Orleans, violence surged..and the pervasive threat of crime challenged the sense of safety we often take for granted. Across the nation, disasters reminded us of our vulnerability: Hurricane Ivan battered the Gulf Coast, leaving communities reeling; floods in other regions displaced thousands; wildfires in California consumed acres of land, and the tragic school shooting in Beslan—though overseas, reminded us that senseless violence spares no borders.

Globally, the world seemed unsteady. Conflict persisted in Iraq and Afghanistan, images of suffering circulated endlessly, and humanity’s capacity for cruelty often overshadowed compassion. It felt at times as if the moral compass of our world was fracturing under the weight of anger and fear.

Personally, 2004 has been a year of contrasts...
challenges and blessings intertwined.

I recognize areas I must repair: mending fractured relationships, caring more for my health, striving to live with integrity and purpose, and being better than I was at the start of the year.

As we step into 2005, my prayer is this: may we be blessed with health, security, meaningful connections, financial stability, and courage to face what is to come. Life may not unfold according to our wishes, but perseverance is our covenant; faith and purpose guide us even when the path is unclear.

Let this be a reminder: we are here for a reason. Every trial, every joy, every shadow carries instruction. The New Year is not simply a passage of time—it is an opportunity to awaken, to act, and to live deliberately.

Stand vigilant. Love intentionally. Act with discernment. 2005 calls for resolve.
