Live, Let Live, and Stop the Nonsense

Before I dive in, let me be clear: this is my space. I write how I want, when I want, and about what I want. I am frank, opinionated, occasionally irreverent, and unapologetically me. If that doesn’t suit you…move along. Simple.

Now...homosexuality. One word guaranteed to light a fire in any room. In many Black communities, gay people are treated as if they are morally corrupt, somehow a threat, or deserving of scorn. Homophobia is alive, well, and often justified by outdated myths: like the idea that homosexual men are more likely to prey on children. Studies have repeatedly shown that cases of child abuse and incest committed by heterosexuals far outnumber those by homosexuals, yet the myth persists.

Many lean on scripture to condemn homosexual and even transgender people, but it’s usually selective. The same texts condemn numerous behaviors we accept without blinking, yet somehow we justify ourselves, rationalizing our “lesser sins” while condemning others for simply loving differently. And let’s be honest: a lot of the disgust is purely moral preference. some people just don’t like men being attracted to men.

I subscribe to the live-and-let-live theory. The world is vast and diverse: different races, religions, political views, and yes—sexual orientations. Coexistence demands tolerance. That means no gay-bashing, no random acts of violence, no policing someone else’s love life.

Think about it: why would anyone willingly choose a lifestyle that invites ridicule, ostracism, and scorn? That alone lends weight to the idea that sexual orientation isn’t a choice. Coming to terms with one’s sexuality is often a struggle, a journey of self-acceptance that some never reveal publicly. Many live under the pretense of heterosexuality, hiding their truth for fear of judgment.

I’m not saying everyone has to approve of every lifestyle..but respect and tolerance are non-negotiable. Hate an act if you must, but never the human being. homosexual people contribute, create, lead, and love just like anyone else, and they deserve to do so without shame or violence.
