In the end, most human reasoning moves backwards.
We think we start with principles.
But often we begin with conclusions shaped by desire.
Then we work our way back to reasons.
As Aquinas once observed:
“What a man strongly desires, he easily believes.”
Desire can bend belief.
Wisdom bends desire back toward truth.
