He Who Findeth | Misquoted and Misunderstood

People love to quote “He who findeth a wife findeth a good thing” as if it’s a command for men to go hunting for women, or some divine instruction that a woman’s role is to wait quietly until she’s “chosen.” That’s not what that scripture means.

The verse speaks to recognition, not pursuit. It’s saying that when a man has found a woman of covenant quality, one who aligns with God’s order, purpose, and peace,  he’s found something good. It’s about discernment and divine approval, not social choreography.

And since we’re using scripture as precedent ... Boaz didn’t pursue Ruth. She was guided by wisdom and  intention, and Boaz recognized Ruth for her character. He didn’t chase; he acknowledged.

So no,  it’s not about who “shoots their shot.” It’s about alignment, timing, and mutual recognition under God’s favor.

A “good thing” isn’t found through a chase
.. it’s revealed through discernment.
