There’s a real heated debate right now in the Black liberation movement about how we should build Black power. Do we work within the established standards of society, or do we tear it down and create something new from the ground up?
Working within these outdated SOPs has its flaws. The effort we put into securing our place still ends up strengthening the White status quo, both economically and politically.
On the other hand, tearing down the system all at once could be devastating for many Black families here and across the African diaspora.
So, what’s the answer? Maybe as we get more woke and politicized, we could break the system down gradually. But in the meantime, it seems like many folks will keep working within the established standards.
I need to think on this some more.
