Reflecting: The first time she took me bra shopping

Getting my first bra was a total nightmare. I remember it clearly – it was in sixth grade during recess. I was chatting with my friend, arguing about why I didn't need a bra yet, when suddenly it started raining. After a while, my friend pointed out that only my chest was wet. I looked down and saw the damp spots on my shirt, realizing that I needed a bra. It was a pretty big moment for me.

The next day, my mom took me to buy a bra at Mervyns. The saleswoman there seemed really strict and intense. She took one glance at my chest and loudly said we needed something to lift and separate. I ended up leaving with a bra that was uncomfortable and ugly. Since then, I've splurged on fancy lingerie as a way to treat myself.
