When I speak out against the injustices in our criminal justice system, it often feels like I’m shouting into a void—an echo chamber of indifference. Each time I bring up the painful truths, I face dismissiveness or outright silence. But why does this happen? Why is the truth so hard for some to hear? It’s not because the facts aren’t there, but because the system I’m confronting is deeply entrenched in outdated, harmful norms. In this post, I explore the discomfort that comes with confronting uncomfortable truths and why it’s so difficult for some to acknowledge the need for reform. Despite the silence, the truth remains. It’s a voice that must keep pushing forward, even when it feels like no one is listening.
