Today, Dr. Serena followed up with me to make sure I was prepared for my appointment with Dr. O’Ryan. Her voice was calm but firm—she wasn’t playing around.
“I need you to be ready for this,” she said. “We need to make sure you get the most out of this visit.”
She gave me a list of things to do:
- Track every symptom – Pain levels, bloating, pressure, how often I was urinating, trouble sleeping, digestion issues—everything. The more details, the better.
- Write down my concerns – Any changes I’d noticed, things I was worried about, and most importantly, what I wanted out of this appointment.
- Prepare to advocate for myself – “If something doesn’t feel right, speak up,” she told me. “Don’t let him brush you off. Make sure you’re heard.”
- Be ready for an exam – Another pelvic exam and ultrasound were likely. I hated that part, but I had to deal with it.
Before she hung up, she reminded me, “If anything feels off before your appointment, don’t wait—call me.”
I promised I would. Then I just sat there, letting it all sink in. This was happening, whether I was ready or not.
