The MRI Results Came In and I Folded!

When I sat down in Dr. O’Ryan’s office again, the MRI scans were already up on the screen. He got straight to it—no small talk that day.

“Alright, let’s go over what we found,” he said, tilting the monitor so I could see.

MRI Findings

Uterus Larger Than Expected
The abnormal tissue growth had caused my uterus to expand, which explained the extra pressure I’d been feeling on my bladder and intestines.

Several Noticeable Areas of Growth
The largest measured about 12 cm, resting against my bladder, while others ranged from 6 to 8 cm, sitting close to my intestines and lower back.

Growth in the Uterine Wall and Cavity
Some tissue was deeper in the uterine wall, while other areas were extending into the uterine cavity. This helps explain why I was experiencing heavier bleeding.

Cervical Tissue and Muscle Strain
My previous diagnosis of cervical insufficiency was still something to watch, and the additional strain from the tissue growth was adding pressure to my uterine muscle.

Partial Pressure on the Ureter
One of the larger growths was touching my left ureter, which we wanted to monitor to prevent kidney issues.

Blood Flow Changes
Some areas showed reduced blood supply, which is common in growths like this and can sometimes cause discomfort.

I gripped the arms of the chair, taking it all in.

“Leata, this isn’t something we can manage with medication anymore,” he said, steady but calm. “Surgery is the next step.”

I exhaled slowly. I’d known this conversation was coming, but hearing it out loud made it real.

He continued, “We’ll go over your options. One is a myomectomy, which removes the abnormal tissue growth and keeps the uterus. Another, if the situation is more extensive, is a hysterectomy. Waiting any longer could limit your options, so it’s best to decide soon.”

The waiting was over. It was time to make a choice.

I wasn’t decided yet… but that’s a story for tomorrow.
