On Witnessing a Friend’s Strength

Some people are in our lives for a long time, and over the years, you shar pieces of your soul. my Friend Tracie Bleu has been that friend for me since we were teenagers. We’ve danced together, we’ve cried together, we’ve held space for each other through life’s ups and downs. And yet, there are struggles she faces that I will never fully know, like the deep, unrelenting pain from multiple sclerosis.

Lately, the flare-ups have been rough, leaving her bedridden at times. I can’t feel that pain, but I can feel the weight it carries... I see her frustration, the exhaustion, the fear. All I can do is pray for her, and hope she knows she’s not walking this path alone.

Her situation is compounded by the responsibilities of raising two beautiful girls, one in high school, the other still discovering the world in elementary school. Life has not always been fair:  She's been through hardships that could have broken her, he's been divorced once, she recently lost her dad, and the father of her child has been distant since  they split. but through it all, she has found love and care in her current husband. It’s a love that holds her steady even when life is unpredictable, and that kind of devotion deserves acknowledgment and respect.

No situation is perfect. No life is without complication. But what matters is the space she has to breathe, to heal, and to be held by those who genuinely care for her. I hope she feels that comfort every single day. I hope she knows that this disease, these challenges, will not define or defeat her.

Weather changes, the world shifts, and sometimes it mirrors the turmoil within her body, but her spirit remains intact. I wish for her covenant peace with God, joy and strength in her relationship, and calm for her children, who are growing up under both challenge and love. As their honorary fairy godmother, I pray they are guided by light, laughter, and resilience.

I sent her a message recently, reminding her she is seen, she is loved, and that even in the hardest moments, she has not been forgotten. That, I think, is all any friend can offer: presence, prayer, and unwavering witness to someone’s courage.
