Whew, let me tell you—the Snowpocalypse tried it, but we made it through. The great Snowmageddon of New Orleans had us out here acting like we were preparing for a full-blown Arctic expedition. Folks were running to the grocery stores, clearing the shelves like a hurricane was coming. (And yes, I was one of those people, but at least I can eat hot food today, so no regrets!) Now the sun is finally out, trying to fix the mess, but of course, it’s not that simple.
See, the snow might be melting, but in its place? Black ice. EVERYWHERE. Y’all, people are slipping, sliding, and pretending like they meant to do that little “shuffle.” And don’t even get me started on the ones driving—they really think their tires are immune to physics.
Now, let’s talk about me and my personal struggle. Because in a moment of pure foolishness, I decided to bundle up like I was hiking Mount Kilimanjaro and walk all the way to work—only for them to tell me they didn’t even need me. So now I’m stuck trekking back home, steaming like a whole pot of red beans. I was sweating so much you could probably see condensation rising off me like I was a breath in the cold air.
So what did I do when I got home? Immediately changed into my warmest pajamas and threw my Snuggie back on. I refuse to freeze in my own home! Normally, I like to lounge around half-dressed, but this snow? Absolutely not. It’s giving "layered like an onion" vibes. And yes, the Snuggie is still far superior to a muumuu.
Now, Entergy finally decided to show up today, and guess where they parked? Right in front of my house. I just know they could feel the struggle radiating from inside. Turns out, something wasn’t connected right in the area, and that’s why our lights were flickering yesterday.
They cut off the power for about five minutes, which felt like a lifetime, but when they flipped it back on? Everything came back FULL FORCE. The lights? Bright. The heat? Blazing. For the first time in days, my house felt fully alive again.
But of course, nothing can go that smoothly. A fuse in my room decided to die on me. So now I’m fumbling with the breaker box like a DIY electrician, praying I don’t make things worse. But hey, I got it back on!
Then, the last hurdle—water. My dad checked, and yep, we had one pipe that straight-up exploded and another one with multiple leaks. Some of those leaks probably existed before, but this weather? It made SURE to expose them. Repairs start tomorrow, and at this point? I’m just over it.
One good thing? I talked to my friends in Shreveport and Baton Rouge, and they were checking on me while I was checking on them. It’s a win-win! We’re all good, minimal damage, and we made it through just fine. That’s the beauty of it—New Orleans might be chaotic, but we take care of each other.
And y’all, Reddit has been absolutely roasting us. Folks up north are laughing at our struggle, but listen—I don’t care. New Orleans and snow just do NOT mix, period.
I’m beyond ready to put this whole Snowmageddon mess behind me. I’m going to work tonight, but the SECOND I get home? I’m burrito-wrapping myself in my Snuggie again.
Spring, where you at?!
