In my previous job, I had a rather difficult supervisor. When I requested a day off in advance for an important interview, he responded dismissively, saying, "It's very busy, I don't know if I can approve it. Is it an emergency?" I replied, "Yes, it is," to which he demanded, "Can you elaborate? Give me more details."
With as much sincerity as I could muster, I explained, "My periods are extremely irregular, and I need to get it checked out. They are so heavy, and I experience excruciating cramps." Before I could even finish, he interrupted, clearly uncomfortable, saying, "Yes, no problem, it's approved. Don't worry about it!"
I resigned the following week. To this day, I still chuckle at how quickly he caved under the pressure of that conversation.
