Let’s talk facts. A lot of these so-called prestigious universities—yes, the predominantly white ones—were built on government land grants. The same way HBCUs got land through federal funding, so did places like Louisiana State University (LSU), Texas A&M, University of Florida, and Penn State. Without those grants, a whole lot of these institutions wouldn’t even exist.
The Land Was Cheap for a Reason
The government wasn’t just handing out prime real estate. A lot of this land was near swamps, rivers, railroads—places that weren’t exactly desirable. It was land that could flood, land that needed draining, land that was more of a liability than an asset. But it was cheap, and that’s what mattered.
LSU? Right by the Mississippi River. Flood risk, but good for trade.
Texas A&M? Out in the middle of nowhere because rural land was cheaper.
University of Florida? Built on swamp land that had to be drained.
Penn State? Farmland that wasn’t considered prime real estate back then.
University of Illinois? Near railways for convenience, but not exactly high-value land.
And then, when Black students were denied entry into these institutions, the government had to step in again with the Morrill Act of 1890, forcing states to create land-grant schools for Black folks. That’s how we got Southern University, Florida A&M, Tuskegee, North Carolina A&T, Alabama A&M, and more.
The Hypocrisy Runs Deep
Now, here’s where it gets wild—some of the same people who love to mock Black folks for government assistance are sitting in universities that wouldn’t exist without federal money. Y’all love to act like only HBCUs needed help, but pull the government grants from your schools, and watch how fast they crumble.
This isn’t just about history—this affects everybody. The people laughing at us don’t even realize they’re next. Even Donald Trump is out here warning them, but they too busy idolizing him to see the bigger picture. They think he’s gonna save them, but reality is coming fast. Project 2025 is on the way, and when it hits, it won’t just be Black folks feeling it—it’s gonna take down everybody who thought they were untouchable.
So yeah, laugh if you want. But when the system starts stripping away the same lifelines that built your world, don’t act surprised. We been knew.
