What I’ve come to realize is this: the political system in the U.S. doesn’t function like a cult—it operates more like a Ponzi scheme.
It survives by keeping people just emotionally invested enough to keep feeding it. It promises returns—justice, change, representation—but only delivers real benefits to those near the top of the pyramid. Everyone else? They're paying into the system with their time, votes, outrage, and loyalty… and getting breadcrumbs in return.
Yes, politicians play their roles. But they’re not the ones truly running the machine. What we see on TV, at debates, in viral clips—that’s just the marketing. The real power operates behind the curtain, in boardrooms and private meetings we’re not invited to.
People defend their party or ideology like it's a sports team, but deep down, a lot of them know. They know the flaws, the hypocrisies. They just pretend not to see them, because admitting it would mean stepping away from the safety of the herd—and possibly losing whatever social capital they’ve built.
The media used to shape the national narrative. Now, that baton’s been passed to social media, where algorithms reward outrage and division. But no algorithm forces anyone to share misinformation or tribal memes. That part? That’s on us.
Meanwhile, the two-party system keeps doing exactly what it was designed to do: consolidate power, absorb dissent, and make sure no real alternatives gain traction. I’ve seen it up close working with an independent candidate. The system isn’t broken—it’s engineered this way.
So no, it’s not a cult. Cults at least believe in something.
This is transactional. It sells hope, siphons energy, and replaces vision with spectacle. It keeps people distracted and divided while the real decisions—the ones that actually shape our lives—are made elsewhere.
If real change is going to happen, it won’t come from blind loyalty to a system that was never built for us in the first place. It starts when people stop performing and start owning their power.
No savior is coming. No party will save us.
We have to wake up, step back, and take responsibility.
