The Truth About Oil of Oregano: What I Learned the Hard Way

Okay ladies, someone put me on oil of oregano claiming it would “detox me,” get rid of parasites, balance my pH, improve vaginal health...you name it. And y’all? That’s not how it works.

I've had this on the shelf or months, the ultra-concentrated 6,000 mg liquid gel tabs made with black seed oil. My coworker insisted we try them. I thought, “Cool, cheap, why not?” Everyone was hyped about this detox fantasy. I even bought a few extras for friends.

Then I actually learned what it does. And what it does not do.

Let’s Break It Down

1. It does NOT remove parasites.

  • Stop believing the videos. I saw a Black dude online claiming it’s a parasite killer. People were literally lining up to take it like holy water. Ladies, that’s a myth. Oil of oregano does not clear intestinal parasites.

2. It CAN reduce certain bacteria and fungi.

  • Yes, it has antimicrobial properties. It can help target some bad bacteria and fungi, but it’s selective, and it won’t magically “cleanse” your whole system.
  • You need to take it with food. Your stomach lining is delicate. The oils are pungent, acidic, and highly concentrated. Without a buffer, you risk irritation.

3. Too much is harmful.

  • I’m talking 6,000 mg tabs—way above standard dosing.
  • What happens if you take too much? Your stomach lining suffers, you overwork your liver, and you can end up with nausea, cramps, or worse. Natural doesn’t automatically mean safe at super doses.

4. It won’t “balance your pH” or magically improve vaginal health.

  • Those claims are marketing spin. It’s not a holistic cure-all. It’s a strong, selective antimicrobial, that’s it.

My Personal Takeaway

Just because something is natural doesn’t mean it’s a free pass for wild claims. The hype around “detoxes” and “parasite cleanses” had me convinced for a hot minute. I wanted it to work, I wanted it to be easy. But reality? It’s never that simple.

I now use this as a reminder to do my research, trust evidence over hype, and respect my body’s limits. Natural remedies can support health, yes, but they are not magic bullets. Your gut, liver, and microbiome are delicate systems. Overshooting them for a quick fix is a shortcut to regret.

Ladies, take it from me: learn, observe, and respect the dosage. Protect your body. Don’t chase myths. And sometimes, the best detox isn’t a supplement—it’s awareness, patience, and self-care.

Presence steadies. Truth clarifies. Natural doesn’t equal limitless.
