As the hours tick down to Hurricane Francine’s anticipated landfall, I’m bracing for what’s to come. With just under seven hours before the storm hits, I’ve been called into work to ride out the storm, and I’m preparing for an extended shift—four hours of overtime, to be exact. The storm is currently a Category 1 hurricane, but forecasts suggest it might weaken to a tropical depression or tropical storm by the time it reaches us.
Despite the relative calm of not facing a direct hit, the reality of storm preparedness is setting in. I’ve packed only the essentials, knowing that conditions might be less than ideal. The job has assured us that food will be provided, which is a small relief amidst the uncertainty. Still, I’m keeping my expectations realistic. The power may go out, so I’ve made sure to bring a flashlight and extra batteries, along with a portable charger to keep my phone operational.
While I’m hopeful that Francine will not bring severe damage or widespread flooding, I’m also mindful of the unpredictable nature of hurricanes. The local news is my constant companion, offering updates and keeping me informed about the storm’s progress. As the storm approaches, I’ll be relying on the strength of my team and the preparations we’ve made to weather the storm safely.
For now, it’s a waiting game. I’m focused on ensuring that everything is in place and ready to adapt to whatever Francine may bring. Here’s hoping for the best as we ride out the storm together.
